This is my final cake for Wilton fondant and gum paste class. This is a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and covered in white fondant with fondant roses.

This is obviously a Christmas cake I made for my family. This is a pumpkin spice cake with "buttercream."

This is the collection of cupcakes and cakes I made for a friends daughter's first birthday. The theme was Julius the Monkey by Paul Frank. The cakes are all made with double vanilla cake and "buttercream" icing. The cake and half the cupcakes are filled with homemade banana pudding.

This was the practice Christmas cake made with a simple spice cake and American buttercream.

This is a mint chocolate chip ice cream cake with fondant daisies made for a baby shower. The cake is homemade chocolate with a chocolate ganache over the top.

This is a Halloween sheet cake. The tombstones (sugar cookies with icing) represent the birthdays that were being celebrated at the party. The cake is a simple chocolate cake with American buttercream icing.

This is a cake I made for a breast cancer awareness bake sale at work. This is also red velvet, cream cheese, and fondant.

This is my first stacked cake for a single class at Michael's. The cake is a hazelnut graham cracker cake with Chantilly cream, covered in fondant, with marzipan grapes. Not the best frosting choice for fondant. I made this cake for my husband's winery, Rhys Vineyards. The logo of the winery is hand-painted on the top of the cake.

Another fondant cake for work also made with red velvet, cream cheese frosting, and fondant. Can you tell that red velvet is one of my co-workers favorites!

This is my final cake for Wilton's cake design class. All the flowers are made with royal icing. This is a lemon cake with lemon buttercream frosting.

This is the first cake I covered in fondant (before I even took a class-thanks Youtube). I don't even remember the fillings.

This is a lemon cake with lemon buttercream frosting and buttercream roses and flowers.

This is a cake from my first cake decorating class. It's basic Crisco "buttercream."

original?tenant=vbu-digital

This is the very first cake I ever decorated, even before taking classes. Obviously this is for a baby shower. It is also my red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.

These are cupcakes (10 dozen) I did for a wedding. The flavors are: lemon cake with lemon glaze and lemon "American" buttercream; chocolate cakes with ganache filling and French buttercream. I decorated the cakes using the 1M in a rose pattern. I also used some royal icing violets and maroon fondant roses to decorate some of the cakes. The couple provided the fabulous Day of the Dead topper.

This is an engagement cake I did for a cousin. It's a vanilla sponge cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. Then I covered it with fondant. This was my first time using Satin Ice fondant and it was pretty tasty. It took forever to get the red the right red but I think the end result was worth it. I did a burgundy color for the "Lisa and Nick" for some contrast.

Here are sugar Halloween Cookies using color flow in the icing. These were the best sugar cookies I've ever made if I do say so myself. And I'm pretty happy with the icing work. I haven't done a ton with color flow so it was a good trial.

These are Halloween cupcakes I made for work. I tried to use different piping techniques to make them look like aliens and then used fondant to make the eyes. The orange ones are a pumpkin spice cupcake and the blue ones are lemon. Both have a Crisco based "buttercream." I've found that the Crisco buttercreams tend to take color a bit better than when I use butter. The flavor isn't as rich, but it reminds me of those great cakes I had as a kid. I'm pretty sure this is my brother's favorite frosting as he always asks for "lard cakes."

Here is another cake I made for work. This is my first half sheet cake and the piping needs a bit of work, but I was happy it didn't break apart. This is my tried and true red-velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I previously worked as a lawyer involving prisons and this was for a colleague. The stripes are supposed to look like prison bars.

This cake is a baby shower cake for a co-worker. It's the office favorite - red velvet with cream cheese frosting (colored a pale butter yellow). I also made roses out of Starburst candies. Lots of fun! And they taste much better than fondant.

Here are the Starburst roses!

Here's my first lemon meringue pie. SOOOOO tasty and actually quite pretty! I don't do a lot of pies but my success on this one makes me think I need to do lots more.

original?tenant=vbu-digital

Here's a Buche de Noel for Christmas (minus the meringue mushrooms). It's filled with a yummy peppermint cream to go with the dark chocolate ganache and chocolate cake.

In honor of Halloween this year, I did a pumpkin spice cupcake with cinnamon buttercream that I decorated with knives (made from fondant) and fake blood. Fun to do a "scary" cake. Not everything can be cute and sweet.

original?tenant=vbu-digital

Here is the cake I did for Lisa and Nick's wedding (see above for the engagement cake). I have to say I am so proud of this cake. It's lemon cake with lemon curd filling and frosted in Swiss meringue buttercream. I was able to get the cake perfectly level and perfectly smooth. The bride requested a very simple rustic looking cake so that is why I did the edges slightly wavy. The topper was some of the fresh flowers used in her bouquet. They both said it was the best cake they ever ate.

Fondant flowers for a cake for a retirement party.

Orange velvet with cream cheese frosting. I dyed the cake orange instead of red in honor of the SF Giants World Series win. The retirement party was the same day as the celebration party in San Francisco.

Another baby shower cake for a co-worker. I wanted to try a new technique with fondant so here it is. She was also having a boy so I thought green, yellow, and blue were good color choices.

original?tenant=vbu-digital

And here's the final product with some fondant roses for a topper.

This is my first foray in carving a cake into a specific shape. I made this with my 6 year old niece for Easter. We first added all the "confetti" we could find to the cake so it ended up coming out pinkie/purplely. I shaped the square cake to (hopefully) an egg shape.

original?tenant=vbu-digital

Ms. J (my niece) then directed me on how to decorate the egg (shapes of rows and placement). It's covered in fondant (Satin Ice fondant). All in all it was a tasty cake!

This was a custom order gig for an ice dancer's 30th birthday. The top was an edible icing image of a costume he and his partner actually wore years ago. The idea was to make it as crazy as possible without taking focus away from the image, so I went with the bright orange and green color borders.

The best part though is the cake. I made a Guinness chocolate cake and iced it with homemade Irish cream (think Bailey's) buttercream. This is one of my best tasting cakes to date! I've had several requests for this cake.

I was asked to make mini-cupcakes and a cake for the grand opening of Haven Salon for the best hairdresser ever. I made 240 mini cupcakes in 3 flavors. The bottom tier are lemon cake with a lemon glaze and then lemon American buttercream with edible pearls. The middle tier are chocolate Guinness cakes with vanilla American buttercream and blue sprinkles. The top tier are red velvet cakes with cream cheese frosting. I made some blue gray white chocolate melts to decorate each cake with the letters of the salon and little swirly patterns.

Here is the 8 inch 3 tier round vanilla cake with the most amazing Swiss vanilla buttercream. The lettering and designs are the blue gray white chocolate melts that were also used on the red velvet cupcakes.
